An Experimental Study of a Dynamic Agency Model

Abstract

In this paper we test a dynamic agency model. The incentive compatible contract does not award the highest pay to the most successful agent. Three treatments with differing information structures are analyzed. Overall, the experiment confirms the model and shows that possibly unfair contracts may have the desired incentive effects. Observed learning behavior accords with learning direction theory.
